Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)
Selection of the lavage site > the bronchoscope is wedged in the corresponding subsegmental bronchus > NaCL 0.9% is instilled (volume 100 - 240ml in 20 to 60ml aliquots; typically 2-3 aliquots of 50ml) > fluid is recovered by gentle continuous hand suction.
