Echo bronchoscope
The curvilinear ultrasound probe provides a linear continuous B-mode ultrasound image. Color doppler is also available and is used for the identification of vascular structures. The endoscopic image is viewed at an angle of 30 degrees forward oblique and the operator needs to compensate accordingly.
A fiber optic lens and a biopsy channel are situated proximal to the US probe. A 22-G biopsy needle can be passed through the latter.
A disposable latex balloon is placed over the US probe. The balloon is inflated with sterile water and provides a fluid interface between the probe and the tracheal wall.
